Patient FAQs

Laser therapy is the use of specific wavelengths of light to treat conditions in the body. Our MLS laser was specifically designed with particular wavelengths to treat pain and inflammation.

Multi-wave Locked System. Our patent laser device uses 808nm and 905 nm wavelengths at the same time in a locked delivery system. The wavelengths fire at the same time to promote better healing and faster results.

When laser therapy was first introduced, it was nicknamed “cold laser” to distinguish it from other lasers that cut or burn the skin like those used in surgery. Laser therapy is a medical treatment that uses specific wavelengths of near infrared (NIR) light to promote tissue healing, relieve pain, and reduce inflammation and swelling. The lasers aren’t actually cold, they simply don’t generate perceptible heat. Cold laser generally referred to older lasers that are typically Class III devices. MLS is a highly more advanced Class IV robotic laser device that doesn’t generate perceptible heat.
The two wavelengths our laser emits safely penetrate through the skin and are absorbed by tissues and cells in the body. The energy is used by mitochondria (organelle in the cell) to create cellular energy called ATP. The laser also brings blood flow to the treatment area, which brings with it oxygen and nutrients.
Average treatment time is approximately 10 minutes with the laser. Depending on your condition, you may have a shorter or longer time under the laser to achieve the optimal treatment application.
Based on your condition, your doctor will be able to recommend proper treatments. Common treatments are either 6 visits (acute condition) or 10 visits (chronic condition). Laser therapy is cumulative and builds on previous sessions, much like taking an antibiotic. Most patients experience a gradual improvement in their pain and inflammation as the laser treatment plan progresses. Therefore, it’s important that you complete the entire course of treatments recommended by your doctor. If you discontinue the treatment prior to completing the entire course of care, your symptoms are likely to reoccur.
MLS M8 Laser Therapy treatments are painless, and most patients don’t feel any sensation during treatment. The laser needs to shine directly on your skin so wear lose, comfortable clothing that you can adjust if needed. The office will also be able to provide disposable gowns or shorts if necessary. Most patients will be seated or lying down for their treatment. We will do our best to ensure your comfort throughout the entire treatment. Our staff is specifically trained to ensure optimal patient outcomes and comfort.
We recommend patients go about their lives like normal after laser therapy. However, since the laser decreases pain, don’t jump into too much activity too fast that your body isn’t ready for. Also, avoid icing the area for at least 8 hours after the completion of your visit. If you have a scheduled Physical Therapy, Chiropractor, Occupational Therapy, etc. visit, we recommend you keep your scheduled care with them as well. If you have any questions, please ask us!
Like any medical intervention, laser therapy has potential possible side effects, and each person may respond differently. However, there are currently no known side effects with MLS Laser Therapy.
MLS M8 robotic laser therapy is FDA cleared for the relief of pain, inflammation, and swelling.
No, MLS Laser Therapy is not covered by insurance. We take flexible spending (for example HSA & FSA).

Yes, I had doubts that this treatment would work on my knee pain. The Dr. prescribed it as the first treatment I should take prior to PT. How can something so easy and painless help knee pain I have been dealing with for months? After the first 2 treatments I saw no change. Then slowly every additional treatment started showing improvements. It works. It is quick. It is painless. It works. The staff at OrthoLazer are also great. They are easy to work with, caring, and listen to their patients.

I suffered a traumatic injury to my hand due to a dog bite, which resulted in a displaced fracture of my 4th metacarpal and several lacerations. Surgery was recommended by the ER doctor and the orthopedic surgeon I was referred to, however I opted to try laser therapy instead. I can honestly say that I was completely pain-free throughout my entire treatment plan, which was amazing. After the first session, my bruising and swelling had almost completely resolved. The lacerations healed well and there is minimal scarring. The laser also prevented any scar tissue from forming in the area of trauma which helped reduce any stiffness and tightness in the tendons. My doctor was blown away with my range of motion and that I could make a closed fist only 5 weeks out from my injury. It took almost half the time it should normally take to completely recover from a severe traumatic injury because of laser therapy. I couldn’t be happier that I was able to avoid surgery and retain full mobility and function of my dominant hand.

This Lazer treatment works. I had injured soft tissue around a hip implant that would not heal. I endured serious pain by the end of each day. I signed up for 10 treatments and by the third treatment the pain started to subside. By the sixth I felt remarkably better. 10 treatments did the trick as I am pain free today and it has been one month since the final treatment. Katy and Amanda are efficient and professional

Very happy with my results. I was having issues with my hip and delayed treatment because I thought I would need a cortisone injection which scared me. I was referred to this office for a fairly new treatment regime. Went from a 7 or 8 on pain scale to a 1 within the first 2 visits. No pain at all with laser treatments…there is no skin contact…even if the wand is used, there is minimal pressure. Katie and Amanda are very knowledgeable and if they aren’t sure of something, they are diligent in finding the answers. I am very happy with my results. I highly recommend this treatment.
